
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) is India's largest National Oil Company. It came into existence in 1955 and became a Corporation in 1994. It is a fully - integrated oil and gas company, operating across the entire hydrocarbon value chain. ONGC has single-handedly scripted India's hydrocarbon saga and is the largest producer of crude oil and natural gas in India, contributing nearly 75% of Indian domestic production of oil and gas.
ONGC has a unique distinction of having in-house capability in all aspects of exploration and production of oil and gas business i.e., Acquisition, Processing and Interpretation (API) of Seismic data, drilling, work-over and well stimulation operations, engineering and construction, production, processing, refining, transportation, marketing, applied R&D and training, etc.
ONGC, which started with an original equity infusion of 343 Crore by the Government of India, has today grown into a 203K Crore Company (net worth) and has cumulatively produced 1094 MMT of crude and 755 BCMof Natural Gas.
ONGC's wholly-owned subsidiary ONGC Videsh is one of the biggest Indian multinational with 39 oil and gas projects in 19 countries. ONGC is also present in downstream business through its refinery and Petro-chemical subsidiaries Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), ONGC Petro-additions Limited (OPaL) and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (OMPL).
Forbes has ranked the Company 3rd largest in India and 220th worldwide in its 2019 ranking based on sales, profit, assets and market value. In a major reinforcement of its global presence, ONGC has jumped 37 notches to secure the 160th position at the 2019 Fortune Global 500 list. Platts has ranked ONGC 17th in overall category and 12th in the integrated Oil and Gas company category in S&P Global Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings 2019.
