Invitation

It is a privilege to extend my warm greetings to all participants of the 15th Biennial International Conference & Exposition of the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG), India. This landmark event, themed “Rock to Cloud: Geo-Exploration Empowering Energy Evolution”, comes at a pivotal moment in the ongoing transformation of the global energy landscape.

Global energy demand is projected to increase by over 25% by 2045, with oil and gas expected to remain dominant sources, contributing over half of the energy mix despite the rapid growth of renewables. India's energy demand is poised to nearly double by 2040, propelled by rapid urbanization, industrialization, and rising living standards. Amidst, this growing demand, the exploration sector remains at the heart of energy security, ensuring sustained resource availability while adapting to decarbonization pathways and technological shifts. When anchored in strong geoscientific fundamentals, digital technologies can reduce exploration-to-production cycle times by up to 30–40%, enhance seismic imaging precision, and improve subsurface predictability.

At ONGC, we are in the midst of a bold digital revolution—redefining exploration and production through unified data ecosystems, advanced analytics, and intelligent automation. Much like the journey from “rock” to “cloud” reflected in SPG’s theme, our strategic focus is on leveraging digital technologies to unlock subsurface intelligence, optimize reservoir management, and accelerate our transition to a more sustainable energy model.

Driven by its vision of an integrated and intelligent energy future, SPG serves as a strategic enabler of interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together geoscientific expertise, digital innovation, and industry insight. SPG 2025 exemplifies this role by uniting academia, industry, and emerging professionals to foster bold thinking, accelerate decision-making, and generate long-term value for the energy sector and the nation.

As we shift toward a digitally integrated future, let us remember: 'We must unite our data, systems, and people under a shared digital vision.' This is more than a call to adopt new technologies; it is a call for cultural alignment, continuous improvement, and a collective commitment to progress driven by innovation.

I commend SPG for its unwavering commitment to excellence and extend my best wishes for the resounding success of SPG 2025.

Shri Arun Kumar Singh
Chairman, CEO, ONGC
