To impart latest technological updates and in-line with the vision of keeping the geoscientists updated a knowledge-sharing session was organized by the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG) on 26th April 2024 at the Technical Interaction Centre (TIC), 2nd Floor, GEOPIC, ONGC Dehradun.
Sh. Satinder Chopra, Founder and President of Sami-Geo Consulting Ltd. Calgary, delivered a talk on ‘Some Interesting Aspects of Modern Reservoir Characterisation’. Sh. Chopra is a very renowned geophysicist having experience of more than 3 decades in the industry.
The session was graciously attended by ED-Basin Manager A&AA Basin & President SPG, Sh. Vishal Shastri, GGM-Basin Manager Frontier Basin, Sh. Gopal Joshi, Sh. N.K. Verma, Ex-MD OVL, and many enthusiastic geoscientists through online and offline modes.Sh. Gopal Joshi welcomed Sh. Satinder Chopra with a bouquet. Sh. Vishal Shatri gave his opening remarks highlighting the role of advanced seismic processing and interpretation techniques for further delineation of the sub-surface and thanked Sh. Chopra on behalf of SPG for sparing time for this talk.
Sh. Chopra in his talk covered a wide array of topics, ranging from seismic processing to qualitative and quantitative interpretation. Sh. Chopra drawing from their extensive experience and expertise, provided valuable insights and practical tips that resonated with everyone in attendance. He shared several case studies on real data and demonstrated the applications of bandwidth extension, phase decomposition, etc.
Sh. Chopra demonstrates the application of seismic reprocessing on its derived attributes
Through the case studies, he emphasized the impact of reprocessing the seismic data, and improvement in its frequency and resolution, and compared the legacy data with the reprocessed one and its derived attributes. The key topics of discussion also included FWI, frequency decomposition, and their applications.
Q&A session at the end of the technical talk
The session was interactive and geoscientists asked several queries which were firmly addressed by Sh. Chopra. Sh. A K Nauriyal, GGM(Geophysics), Vice President, SPG-India felicitated Sh. Chopra with a memento. In the end, Sh. Rajiv Gautam, Joint Secretary, SPG-India proposed a vote of thanks and mentioned that this talk shall catalyze growth, inspiration, and innovation.
As we, the geoscientists continue our journey forward, fueled by the insights gained, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible and adapting technology for the betterment of our organization and beyond. SPG-India is committed to providing the latest technology updates to all its Geoscientists and enriching them from time to time.
