Abstract

Ramnad sub-basin is formed due to rifting like other East Coast basins. During last two decades about sixty five wells have been drilled in the land part. Only Mandapam-1, Ramanavalasai-4, Nainarkoil-1 and Uchipuli-1 wells met with basement. Gas is being produced from five areas within the Ramnad sub basin viz. Pariyapattinam (PP), Perungulam (PE), Ramanavalasai (RV), Kanjirangudi (KJ) and Palk Bay Shallow (PBS). Nannilam formation is main hydrocarbon producer in the Ramnad sub-basin.
