Oil slicks on the ocean can cause serious environmental problems. Oil slicks in offshore areas may be natural or man-made. Natural oil slicks in the offshore areas have special importance in oil exploration, for they may indicate leakages from subsurface reservoirs. The present study attempts to detect oil slicks using multi-temporal Sentinel 1 SAR data in the offshore region of the Andaman Islands. Five SAR images acquired on 31.10.2022, 12.11.2022, 24.11.2022, 06.12.2022 and 11.01.2023 have been processed and analysed to detect oil slicks. The results show the presence of an oil slick in the SAR image of 12.11.2022 only, which is probably not natural in origin.
