Methane hydrates are naturally occurring ice-like crystalline solids where methane gas molecules are trapped within the cages of the water molecules, detected by reflector called Bottom Stimulating Reflector (BSR) occurring in the seismic section. In the present study we aim to investigate the prospect of gas hydrate accumulation in Krishna-Godavari basin by integrating the well-log and seismic data with rockphysics analysis. Further, we have made an attempt to carry out the Post-stack impedance inversion and Prestack impedance inversion technique for identification of BSR and free gas zones in KG basin and study the efficacy of these methods in the process of acoustic impedance inversion. The initial models are synthesised from the seismic and well log data and then inverted to obtain the pre-stack and post stack impedance models. The Pre-stack inversion results have shown a clear BSR compared to the post stack inversion.
