The Cauvery Basin, situated in the south eastern continental margin of India, is a pericratonic rift basin that has undergone multiple tectonic phases since the Mid-Late Jurassic. Recent explorations in the deep offshore regions of the basin have unveiled the presence of synrift intra-grabenal inverted structural features, offering promising leads for hydrocarbon exploration. This paper examines the origin, regional extent, depositional set up and potential of these synrift (M.JurassicBarremian) intra-grabenal highs as hydrocarbon plays in the deep offshore segment of the Cauvery Basin within Continent Ocean Boundary (COB). Using seismic profiles, tectonic models (generated using source EarthBytes_GPlates, an open portal), well based stratigraphic analysis and facies maps, the study brought the understanding of the sediment & tectonic evolution of the area which have shaped the structural architecture, creating traps favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation.
