Tarapur Tectonic Block is situated between the Ahmedabad-Mehsana and Bharuch-Jambusar blocks within the Cambay Basin. This area remains relatively underexplored despite the basin’s long-standing hydrocarbon production history since 1958. This study evaluates the reservoir potential of the Miocene Basal Sand (MBS) within the Tarapur Block - an interval known for its productivity in Tarapur Graben. Historically limited by sparse well control and the absence of 3D seismic data, the area has now been re-evaluated using newly acquired 3D seismic data by Cairn Oil & Gas, integrated with available legacy data set. Spectral decomposition techniques were applied to identify depositional features indicative of potential reservoir fairways, leading to the delineation of sweet spots for exploration wells. Rock physics analysis including Vp/Vs cross plots and fluid substitution modeling provides robust lithology discrimination and insights into fluid sensitivity. The integrated approach not only delineates the extension of the MBS play into the study area but also contributes to future de-risking of the reservoir, supporting the exploration strategy in the area of interest (Figure 1).
