There are some controlling factors which determine the conditions of hydrocarbon generation, the presence of oil and gas in a trap, the hydrodynamics and timing of hydrocarbon migration and the means of entrapment. All these factors affect the accumulation of hydrocarbon. Processes of generation, migration, timing of migration and entrapment are the necessary factors which aid in the hydrocarbon accumulation. To understand these processes and their role in controlling the distribution of oil and gas in Tapti Daman sector, a GME (Generation, Migration, Entrapment) model has been prepared from Saurashtra Homocline to Eastern Homocline of Tapti Daman area. Tapti Daman hosts mostly gas. The oil distribution in Daman Formation of Late Oligocene age and Mahuva Formation of Early Oligocene age is localized. An effort has been made to understand how these processes have affected the distribution of oil and gas in Tapti Daman sector and the prospective locales of finding oil in Oligocene Plays.
