Western offshore basin of India is known for its prolific oil and gas reservoirs. Tapti-Daman area presents north-eastern of this basin has many gas producing fields from Daman & Mahuva Formation of Oligocene age. Diu Formation of Mid-Late Eocene age remained underexplored in Tapti-Daman area because of poor reservoir facies. Bassein Formation which is equivalent to Diu Formation is a producing gas field south of Tapti-Daman area. Diu play is an emerging play which bears a lot of potential therefore a study was carried out to probe its prospectivity. The study identified an isolated four-way closure structure at the Diu level, likely benefiting from secondary porosity linked to the nearby Dahanu fault. Drilling confirmed a substantial carbonate accumulation, yielding commercial gas quantities. This discovery not only validates the potential of the Diu play but also suggests further exploration possibilities north of the Dahanu fault, which separates the Tapti-Daman tectonic block from the Mumbai offshore. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of integrated geological modelling in unlocking new hydrocarbon prospects, paving the way for increased exploration in this region.
