Conventionally 2D Seismic data are being used for identifying hydrocarbon plays through structural and stratigraphic interpretation and narrow down the potential areas for subsequent 3D Seismic data acquisition. Interpretation of 2D Seismic data generally provides reasonable confidence for mapping subsurface boundaries. However, the interpretation varies from one interpreter to another and requires extensive experience. 3D Seismic data plays an important role for a journey from play to prospect and minimizes interpretation related uncertainty. Due to increasing demand for oil & gas, new exploration acreages have opened. Such areas are covered only with sparse 2D Seismic data as acquisition of 3D Seismic data is not economic to cover entire exploration area. Additionally, acquisition of 3D Seismic data is a challenge in certain areas due to logistical constraints. It is required to speed up the exploration activity by acquiring and interpreting in economic and fastest way. The 2D Seismic data acquired at different times may have different seismic parameters and vintage. A workflow has been designed to convert 2D Seismic to 3D Seismic volume using various statistical techniques. This workflow is an innovative approach to visualize the 2- Dimensional Seismic data in 3D domain collectively after normalizing the various seismic recorded parameters. The 3D Seismic volume created from 2D Seismic data is an economic and quick way to improve upon seismic interpretation and improve the understanding of the reservoir.
