Abstract

In an era where advanced seismic attributes, AI/ML-driven predictions and complex data analytics dominate exploration workflows, this study presents a success story grounded in fundamental petroleum system understanding. A recent exploration discovery was made through basic 1D Petroleum System Modelling (PSM), conventional seismic interpretation, and amplitude versus offset (AVO) analysis. By systematically evaluating source rock maturity, critical hydrocarbon expulsion timing with structural history analysis, a prospect was identified and successfully drilled, resulting in commercial oil and gas discovery. The success of the identified prospect highlights the importance of integrated petroleum system analysis driven workflows in exploration (Magoon and Dow, 1994)².
