SPG Jorhat Chapter organised a Technical talk titled“Diffraction Imaging & Fracture Characterization as an Asset Optimization Technique” under its “Technical lecture series”on 27th September 2024 at B.R Ambedkar Auditorium, ONGC Jorhat in hybrid mode. The talk was delivered by Shri Akhil Puri, Solution Consultant, M/s AspenTech Ltd.

Shri Akhil Puri has over 22 years of experience in upstream Oil & Gas industry. He possesses vast experience in seismic interpretation and reservoir characterization and specializes in new age technology solutions like interpretation of Specular & diffraction stack, advance reservoir and fracture characterization techniques.

The session commenced with the formal welcome of Shri Akhil Puri by Shri T K Mathuria, Officiating Basin Manager A&AA Basin. Shri T K Mathuria highlighted the important role played by professional societies such as SPG Jorhat chapter in dissemination of knowledge & awareness to exploration geoscientists on latest techniques and developments in the field of reservoir characterization.

During his talk Shri Puri presented the detailed Processing workflow of rich azimuth seismic data. Highlighting various case studies on the Basement Exploration techniques, Shri Puri emphasised on the immense value and information brought in by rich azimuth seismic data that is being actively harnessed especially for delineation and characterization of fractures.

Shri C.S Bahuguna, CGM (GP) - Head Geophysical Services in his concluding remarks thanked Shri Puri for his very informative presentation and for sharing his findings. He also enthused SPG-Jorhat Chapter to keep collaborating with industry as well as academia for such in-depth discussions and deliberations to enhance our understanding of geophysical techniques and their application in the field of hydrocarbon exploration.
