It has always been a challenge to resolve thin beds through seismic imaging. Many of the recent hydrocarbon discoveries in India as well as in other parts of the world involve these types of reservoir pays. The conventional thinking assumes that only the beds thicker than one fourth of the dominant wavelength can be resolved. Higher frequency data can improve vertical resolution. The benefits of improving the resolution include better definition of pinch-outs, and resolving internal bed geometries.
