1. GEO TRIVIA QUIZ

The Geo Trivia Quiz 2023, a knowledge-based competition focused on Earth sciences, was successfully organized by the SPG BHU Student Chapter, Department of Geophysics. This virtual event aimed to engage students and enthusiasts in a fun yet intellectually stimulating environment, testing their understanding of geophysics, geology, and related aspects of Mother Earth.

The event was held online on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM, providing an opportunity for participants from diverse locations to join. It featured thought-provoking questions designed to challenge participants' knowledge and critical thinking skills about Earth sciences.

2. Lecture on Electrical and Heliborne Geophysics for Groundwater Applications by Dr. Subash Chandra

The Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG) BHU Student Chapter, under the Department of Geophysics, organized an insightful talk on "Electrical and Heliborne Geophysics for Groundwater Applications" on Tuesday, May 7th, starting at 3:00 PM. The event was conducted online, allowing participants to join from various locations via a Google Meet link.

Keynote Speaker:

The session was led by Dr. Subash Chandra, a renowned expert in the field of geophysics. He is the Chief Scientist and Head of the Electrical and Heliborne Geophysics Division at CSIR-NGRI Hyderabad. Dr. Chandra has made significant contributions to the advancement of geophysical methods for groundwater exploration and management. His extensive research and expertise in electrical and heliborne geophysical techniques have greatly enhanced the understanding and application of these methods in various geological studies.

3. Let's Explore the Earth's Horizon

The SPG BHU Student Chapter, under the Department of Geophysics, presented an engaging event titled "क्षितिज: Let's Explore the Earth's Horizon"for the academic session 2023-24. This initiative aimed to inspire curiosity and broaden understanding of Earth's processes and horizons among students and professionals.

About the Title:

The title (Kshitiz), meaning "horizon" in Hindi, symbolizes the endless pursuit of knowledge and exploration. The event focused on exploring various aspects of Earth's geophysical and geological phenomena, fostering a deeper connection with the planet's natural systems.

ABOUT GEO-AAKARSHAN

Geo-Aakarshan symbolizes the pull towards the knowledge of our planet. As students of the Department of Geophysics at Banaras Hindu University, we are thrilled to present the fourth edition of our national-level festival, Geo-Aakarshan 2024.This event is organized by the Banaras Hindu University Geophysical Society (BHU), in collaboration with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists(SEG),the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists(SPG), the Association of Exploration Geophysicists(AEG),and the Indian Geophysical Union(IGU) Student Chapters.

Geo-Aakarshan is a celebration of Earth Science, aiming to bring this fascinating field to the forefront and inspire the youth to pursue careers in it. Beyond raising awareness, it serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents through various competitions and challenges.

This festival bridges the gap between industry and academia, fostering collaboration through talks and lectures from renowned experts. Held from September 3rd to September 5th, in both online and offline modes, Geo-Aakarshan offers a unique opportunity for knowledge-sharing, skill development, and innovation, ensuring a bright future for Earth Science.
